India Abstract The purpose of the present study was to assess achievement in mathematics of 9th standard students with different socio economic status and gender differences. Achievement in mathematics plays a vital role in the life of a students as it helps them is their day to day life as well as in their higher Education. Achievement in mathematics indicates a person’s capacity and potentials in acquiring knowledge and skills in the subject mathematics. Applied mathematics is the need of the hour in every field of knowledge. Socio economic status of parents contribute to a great extent in the achievement of students as their economic state helps in providing students with additional learning material extra educative programme etc and parents education helps to guide their children to achieve higher. Further, parents’ social status makes the children confident which helps them in learning free from tension. The objectives of the study were, to assess the achievement in mathematics of 9th standard students, to compare the achievement in mathematics of 9th standard students belonging to different levels of socio economic status and to compare the achievement in mathematics of 9th standard boys and girls. The study found that, there is no significant difference in the mean scores of achievement in mathematics of 9th standard students belonging to different levels of socio economic status and that, there is no significant difference in the mean scores of achievement in mathematics of 9th standard boys and girls.
