Microplastic pollution in agricultural fields adjoining nag and Pivali rivers of Nagpur district.

Abstract

Pollution due to microplastics in agricultural ecosystem is increasing due to dumping of plastic materials in the environment, which gets degraded due to long term exposure of UV radiation into microplastics and nanoplastics. These microplastics enter into adjoining rivers or water bodies through runoff and sewage water, or by any other means. During present investigation, agricultural fields on the banks of Nag and Pivali river of the Nagpur city were studied for microplastic contamination. This pollutant was found deep into the soil, thereby disturbing soil profile and reducing fertility.
