Online published on 12 July, 2024. Abstract Ethanolic, Methanolic, and water leaf extracts "Jatropha Gossypifolia L. were employed for studying growth of Escherichia coli MTCC433 (Gramnegative bacteria) and Staphylococcus aureus MTCC96 (Gram-positive bacteria) by Disc Diffusion Method and compared with Antibiotics i.e., Azithromycin (AZM), Ciprofloxacin (CIP), Chloramphenicol (CH), Amoxicillin (AMX), Metronidazole (MT). The zone of inhibition varied from 17-34 mm in case of antibiotics and from 6-21 mm when Jatropha leaf extract was used. The synergistic effect of antibiotic and leaf extracts showed larger zone of inhibition (36- 41 mm). Ethanolic extract had stronger antibacterial potential than the methanolic and aqueous extracts. Jatropha gossypifolia L. enhanced the efficacy of antibiotics. Top Keywords Jatropha gossypifolia L., Antibiotics, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Zone of inhibition. Top |
