Present investigation was undertaken to study reproductive biology of Ribbon fish (Lepturacanthus savala), for which its size at first maturity, spawning frequency, fecundity, ova diameter and recruitment pattern were studied.. Thirteen months of data were collected for analysis, wherein male and female gonads were observed. The maturity stages of gonads were determined on the basis of morphological appearance. Morphological observations included colour, shape and size of the body cavity, changes in the diameter of unspawned ova, and degree of yolk deposition. Microscopic observations of gonadal products were also recorded. Top Keywords Lepturacanthus savala, Ribbon fish, Reproductive biology, Gonads. Top |
