The Society was founded during the Golden Jubilee Year of India's Independence in July, 1998 with thefollowing objectives:

1. To encourage basic, applied and strategic research in the field of agroforestry.

2. To disseminate knowledge and technology related to agroforestry.

3. To organise & provide facilities for seminars and conferences for agroforesters, scientists,environmentalists, research and development workers and farmers.

4. To encourage close cooperation among organisations having interest in the field of agroforestry.
