Pre-Selection for Yield in Coffee Srinivasan C.S.* Botany Division, Central Coffee Research Institute, Coffee Research Station, Chikmagalur District, Karnataka-511 117, India *Present address: Coffee Research substation sulastation, Chettalli, Coorg, 571 248.
Abstract Five morphological characters (stem diameter, number of primary branches, length of longs primary nodes and internodal length on longest primary were evaluated for their utility in preselection for yield in four varieties of Coffeaarabica using standard selection index method. The predicted genetic advance of an index based on all five characters was 16 to 19% more than that of selection based on average of three years’ yield. Some indices based on four, three and two characters were also more efficient than straight selection. Top | |
