N.D.R.F. Response in Nepal Earthquake Singh O.P. I.P.S. (Retd.), Former Director General, NDRF Former Director General, Uttar Pradesh Police Online published on 16 July, 2021. Abstract The day started in a slow and leisurely way, as on any holiday. However, that day, the plates of a geological fault slipped somewhere deep in the earth, causing the ground to convulse and contort, leading to an Earthquake. These movements brought about wide spread, but highly irregular pattern of damage to property and life across the country. Hundreds of villages were flattened to a varying degree, and badly built houses collapsed in the faraway city of Kathmandu. The worst -affected areas were in the central and western regions of Nepal. There were 8,790 causalities and 22,300 injuries with more than 8 million people, comprising about one-third of population affected. The earthquake intruded the cosy arrangements between humans and nature. The scene was remarkable and haunting, at the same time. In Kathmandu valley, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur, the early aftermath brought feelings of grief, alienation and anger. Top Keywords Earthquake, Cosy, NDRF, Nepal. Top |
