Abstract Field and laboratory studies were conducted to find out the period of crop growth at which weeds provide maximum competition to rice. The most critical period of crop-weed competition in transplanted rice was between 4–6 weeks after transplanting. The maximum grain yield (5635 kg/ha) was obtained when the weeds were removed 4 weeks after transplanting. Successive delay in weed removal increased the weed dry matter and decreased the grain yield. Grain yield declined by about 10 q/ha, when the time of weed removal was extended from 6 to 8 weeks after transplanting. Top | |
