Studies on the Pre-Emergence Herbicides in Sunflower (Helianthus Annum L.) under Graded Doses of Nitrogen. Raju K.1, Deputy Agricultural officer, Sankaran S.2, Associale Professor 1Department of Agriculture, Tamilnadu 2Agronomy, Tamilnadu Agril. University, Coimbatore Abstract A field experiment in sunflower was conducted at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Farm Coimbatore during Kharif 1972 to compare the selectivity and efficiency of herbicides falachlor, nitrofen, prometryne and terbutryne) with that of conventional method (two hand hoeing and weedings) of weed control for the crop under graded doses of nitrogen. Pre-emergence application of prometryne at 1.0 kg ai/ha was the best weed control treatment and it was on par with the conventional method in seed yield. The oil content in seeds was not affected due to herbicides. A dose of 60 kg N/ha was the optimum fox the crop with respect to seed yield and oil content. Prometryne application gave the highest net return per rupee invested on weeding and it was more economical than conventional method of weeding. Top | |
