Abstract In an experiment weed competitions with late sown sugarbeet crop for 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, and 153 days after sowing were compared against a weed free crop. Sugarbeet variety was Ramonskaya 06, and the crop was sown on 25th November, 1972. Significant reduction in the yield of beet roots was observed when weed competition was allowed after 80 days of sowing. When weeds competed up to harvest (153 days), there was a reduction of 31 per cent in the yield of beet roots, as compared to weed free plots. Highest net return of Rs. 3,605 per hectare was obtained from the plots where weed free conditions were provided after 20 days of sowing. This net return was 59 per cent higher than the returns obtained from full competition plots Top |
