Abstract

The trade in non-native species has burgeoned, due in most in part to the availability, achievable costs and often hardy nature of these species. Green iguanas have become a popular exotic pet in India and many private keepers acquire juveniles. However, when these individuals mature and become larger and more difficult to manage, they are often donated to zoos or other agencies. Since iguana -keeping is a new trend in India, a lack of knowledge and nuances regarding their captive care and husbandry contributes to poor care and welfare in both private collections and zoos. In this article, we present a preliminary guide to good practices.
