Juvenomimetic effects of karanjin on the larval development of flesh fly, Sarcophaga ruficornis Fabr. (Cyclorrhapha: Diptera) Mathur Y.K.1, Srivastava J.P.1, Nigam S.K.1,2, Banerji R.1,2 1Department of Entomology, C.S.A. University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur-208 002 (India). 2Lipid and Pesticides Division, National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow-226 001 (India). Abstract Karanjin treated third instar larvae of fleshfly, Sarcophaga ruficornis manifested three types of morphogenetic forms viz., larval-pupal intermediates, pupal-adult intermediates and deformed adults. With the increase in concentration of karanjin (2000–3500 ppm), more larval mortality and 1-pintermediates were obtained; where as at lower concentrations (1000–2000 ppm) the percentage of pupal-adult intermediates and deformed adults was more pronounced. Karanjin, the principal furanoflavonoid of Pongamia pinnata L. Pierre (karanj) was used in the crytalline form isolated from the seed oil. Top | |
