Effectiveness of various fumigants against Varroa jacobsoni mites in Apis cerana indica F. colonies Hameed S.F., Singh B. Department of Entomology, Rajendra Agricultural University, Pusa (Samtipur)-848 125 (India). Abstract Seven fumigants, viz., paradichlorobenzene (PDCB); naphthalene, sulphur, dichlorvos, tobacco smoke, methyl salicylate and bromopropylate (Folbex VA strip) were tried against the mite Varroa jacobosni Oud. in Apis cerana indica F. colonies. Amongst these, PDCB and naphthalene were found ineffective against the mite. Sulphur was slightly effective while dichlorvos (at 50 ppm concentration soaked in filter paper) was the second best treatment. Tobacco smoke had adverse effece on honey bees. Methyl saliqlate proved an inferior treatment. Bromopropylate proved highly effective against the mite. Top | |
