Abstract Seventeen elite sweet sorghum germplasrns were evaluated to identify relatively less susceptible sources to important insect pests as also for agronomic suitability. The least susceptible germplasms were located in HES-4, SSV-77, MSSH-154 to shootfly, Atherigona soccata Rond.; HES-4, SSV-53, SSV-12611, SSV-77, AKS-SSV-3 and MSSH-154 to stem borer, Chilo partellus (Swinhoe); AKSS-SSV-3 to leaf hopper, Pyrilla perpusilla Wlk.; and AKSS-SSV-3, AKSS-SSV-5 and HES-2 to grey weevil, Myllocerus maculosus Desbr. HES-4 and MSSH-154 exhibited least susceptibility to both the tissue borers of sweet sorghum, and AKSS-SSV-3 was not only least susceptible to the stem borer but also to external pests, viz. leaf hopper and grey weevil. HES-2, HES-3 and HES-13 were categorised as high energy lines. Top |
