Aims and Scope

The main objective of the Indian Society of Plant Pathologists (INSOPP) is to advance and disseminate scientific knowledge on plant diseases through the publication of the journal Plant Disease Research and to arrange scientific excursions explorations within the country and to cooperate with national & international organizations with related aims and interests. It arranges interactions of plant pathologists at the headquarters and at various universities and ICAR institutes. The annual general body meeting of the society is held regularly and whenever necessary. The organization of interactions provides opportunities for the members and others interested in the subject to remain in touch with the plant's pathological activities.

About the Journal

History of the Plant Disease Research Journal:

The Indian Society of Plant Pathologists is a professional society for promoting the science of Plant Pathology. The Society was established in May 1984 at the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana in the Department of Plant Pathology. The Society was registered on 19th October 1984, (Registration No. 332 of 1984-85) under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860. The journal Plant Disease Research (ISSN 0970-4914 for print and ISSN 2249-8788 for online) started in 1986, as a leading journal of Phytopathology and related research, which is published half yearly (June and December). It advances recent concepts in plant disease management provides information on the latest developments and research advances in plant health and participates in the exchange of information with policy makers, as well as the scientific community.

The society focuses on the fields of Fungal Pathology, Bacteriology, Virology, Nematology, and allied branches. It provides a forum for scientists to interact on important issues of Plant Pathological Research, Education, and Extension. The society regularly organizes National Symposia, Seminars, and Brain Storming Sessions on emerging topics of Plant Pathology.

Journal Consistency:

The official publication of the society (INSOPP) was started in 1986. The journal Plant Disease Research has been regular and very consistent in publication and is continuously published half yearly (2 issues every year in the month of June and December) since its inception. A total of 38 volumes have been published to date. The 1st issue of the 38th volume was published in June 2023.

The membership of the Society is open to all persons, above 18 years of age or graduates who are interested in the field of Plant Pathology. Ordinary member has to pay an admission fee of Rs. 100/- and an annual subscription of Rs. 1000 for Indian nationals or US $150 for foreigners. However, the life membership fee is Rs.10000/- for Indian nationals or US $1500 for foreigners. These payments are required to be made by NEFT transaction or in the form of DD or multicity cheque payable at Ludhiana in favour of Treasurer, Indian Society of Plant Pathologists. Life Member who wish to be considered as Fellow of the Society may send two copies of his/her biodata to the Secretary, INSOPP, Ludhiana-141004. However, he or she must have published at least two papers in the journal Plant Disease Research. The biodata of the member will be screened by the competent committee of the Society before the declaration of the Fellow of the Society (INSOPP). Nevertheless, the number of Fellows to be admitted during a year would be restricted to five only. The Society may occasionally elect Honorary Fellows among persons well known for their services to the cause of Plant Pathology.
