Abstract

Sheath blight disease caused by Rhizoctonia solani is one of the major diseases of rice in Odisha. It has become a major constraint in getting potential yield from the high yielding rice varieties. Field experiments were carried out in the research field of All India Coordinated Rice Improvement Project, Regional Research and Technology Transfer Station, Chiplima, Sambalpur, Odisha during two consecutive kharif seasons of 2017 and 2018. The study was carried out to find out the most effective fungicidal combination among eight combinations against the disease. Two spraying were given at 15 d interval, starting from initiation of the disease. Under in vitro condition, the fungicides were tested following poisoned food technique. The result showed that, spraying of azoxystrobin + difenoconazole 325 SC @ 1 mL L-1 was most effective to control sheath blight disease (82% reduction over control) without any phytotoxic symptom and produced highest yield (53.3 q ha-1). Under in vitro condition also, (azoxystrobin + difenoconazole) gave almost 80% inhibition of radial growth even at 100 ppm and proved to be the best of all the eight fungicidal combinations tested resulting 100% inhibition of radial growth at 200 and 500 ppm.
