Abstract This study explores the issues of conservation and preservation of the rare manuscripts collection in Panjab University Library, Chandigarh. The Library has a good collection, comprising of one thousand four hundred ninety three manuscripts. The data about the collection, acquisition, organization, preservation and conservation, infrastructural facilities and digitization of manuscripts was obtained from library staff. The library has manuscripts in Hindi, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Persian, and Urdu. Some measures have been taken for the preservation and conservation of these precious items for the benefits of future generations.
