Role of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in establishment of micropropagated plantlets of Sesbania Grandiflora (L.) pers.

Shoot buds differentiated from hypocotyl and cotyledon explants of Sesbania grandiflora were cultured on B5 medium supplemented with BAP in combination with IBA or NAA. Rooting of regenerated shoots was achieved on medium containing 4.92 pg ml−1 IBA. Only 23% of the plantlets survived in soil, while 95% of plantlets established very well and showed good growth in AM inoculated soil. Roots of the later plantlets showed presence of both external and internal hyphae with well formed arbuscules and vesicles confirming establishment of mycorrhizal association. The mycorrhizal association, thus helped in successful establishment of in vitro regenerated plantlets of S. grandiflora in field conditions.
