Abstract The present clinical study was conducted on seven young male dogs presented with history of swelling lateral to anus, facing difficulty in defecation, constipation, obstipation, fecal incontinence, hematuria, urinary incontinence, dysuria and anuria. Dogs were found dull with reducible swelling at perineal region and rectal deviation/sacculation. Based on clinical, radiographical and ultrasonographic examination, cases were tentatively diagnosed as perineal hernia. Out of seven cases, retroflexion of the urinary bladder as hernial content was found in five dogs and prostate and intestinal part as hernial content was found in two cases. The standard perineal herniorrhaphy and castration were performed in all dogs. Post-operatively, animals were managed on fluid therapy, liquid, and semi-solid diet. Antibiotics and anti-inflammatory therapy were given for seven days. The antiseptic dressing of suture line was done until healing. No hernial recurrence was observed in all dogs after six months of follow up. Top Keywords Castration, Herniorrhaphy, Perineal hernia, Radiography, Ultrasonography. Top |
