Contribution to Livestock Health, Production, Research Education and Infrastructure Development/Research Area:

  1. Important contributions include

    • Development of potent vaccines against equine influenza, goat pox, ILT and E. Coli septicaemia.

    • Identification of new animal diseases for the first time in India e.g. equine influenza A/Equi-2.

    • Equine infectious anemia, equine coital exanthema, equine arteritis and equine Rota, adeno & rhino-I virus infections.

    • Development of rapid and sensitive diagnostic tools for a number of animal and poultry diseases employing ELISA, PCR and gene sequencing.

    • Basic studies in equine immunology, isolation of Q-fever agent from a number of animal species for the first time in India/World; control of EIA, equine influenza on national basis and characterization of mare lactoferrin for its possible use as anti-microbial agent.

  2. Infrastructure development and modernization of research laboratories with GMP/GLP compliance facilities and accreditation. Center for Animal Disease Research received ISO 9001-2000 certification.

  3. The Agriculture Technology Information Centre, Helpline and Kisan (Farmer) Call Centre, established at the Institute created an effective platform for addressing farmer's problems.

  4. As many as 22 technologies have been filed for patenting and one technology has been patented. Promising technologies, namely IVRI Crystoscope for addressing animal fertility problems, area-specific mineral mixture and vaccines for FMD and PPR have been commercially transferred to industry.

  5. A Mab based diagnostic kit developed for rinderpest Sero-surveillance, approved by OIE and validated by IAH, Pirbright, UK is the second kit of ots kind in the world.

  6. Competence building for management of exotic and emerging animal diseases e.g. bird flu, Bovine immunodeficiency virus disease, BVDV in cattle, haemorrhagic disease virus infection in rabbits, pseudorabies & PRRS in pigs has been achieved.

  7. Developing simple tools for detection of ovulatory oestrus i n cattle and buffaloes.

  8. Under Dr. yadav's leadership, IVRI DU has been duly accredited by the Accredtation Board of ICAR.
