“E-Publishing & Global Promotion of Indian Publications”
on
1st July, 2006, Auditorium, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Vihar Lake, Mumbai

Speech by Dr. A.S. Ranade,
Bombay Veterinary College

Thank you,

I am here because I am the editor of the Journal of Bombay Veterinary College. We have an association with IndianJournals.com because our journal is hosted on the Indianjournals.com website. Basically, this is a very good venture. May be two-three years back it was a dream and this gives international acceptability of the journals.

Ours is a Veterinary College having collaboration with sites. Recently a conference was held in Bareilly where the Veterinary Colleges participated to discuss e-publishing and global promotion of the Indian Publications. This will not lead to replacement of Print Journals. You say this when you edge for any career advancement stage, still ask for original print. So, mind changes takes time. Secondly, very rightly said Indian Journals are not of low quality. The speakers in the morning are correct. But quality wise our extremely good and whatever is there in Foreign Publishing, may not be applicable in Indiaalso. So, whatever we do for farmers and that doesn't reach there then the purpose is not solved.

Now I am a man of Poultry Science. We do publish Poultry related content but most important journals like “Poultry Guide” etc get published in India as well as outside. So our journals should be rated in India also. So such initiative should be educated to the people so that the information is readily available and people are ready to adopt the changes. So in animal husbandry, the farmers are also so much keen that they make themselves aware. So such initiative should be absolutely remarkable. So Global Promotion is going to help those who so ever are coming up for publication so that they are available worldwide. We have almost spread over a large area. I just passed on the information about our journal and got a tremendous response. Every body was very happy. To make this more visible, it is our responsibility basically. We should take the initiative not relying on other agency. So, all of us are here. So we have to make this more popular so as to male it more acceptable.

I thank the organizers to call me and giving me this opportunity to share my views in front of you. I wish them good luck too!

Thank you
