Welcome Address

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen!

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you all to the seminar hosted by IndianJournals.com. I thank you all that inspite of the heavy rain, you managed to come here and thus making the event a success.

Before we begin today’s proceedings, I would like to introduce our guest panelists for the morning. I would also like to extend my appreciation to them for taking out time from their respective schedules to share their valuable thoughts and experience with us.

I would like to welcome

  1. Dr. Sukhdev Singh (Technical Director, National Informatics Centre)
I would like to thank him for accepting our invitation and coming all the way from Delhi.

Also, I would like to welcome
  2. Dr. Vijai Kumar (Head Scientist – Scientific Information Resource Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai)
He has a wealth of experience in providing information to his users electronically.

Unfortunately, two of our panelists for today are not among us as Dr. Subhash Awale (Director, National Institute of Industrial Engineering [NITIE]), had to rush out of station due to some urgent piece of work.

    and

Dr. A.P. Bhokre (Dean, Bombay Veterinary College). He is not feeling well and hence is not able to join us today.

I also thank you all for taking time off your busy schedules and joining us in this moment of happiness.

A special thanks to Dr. Awale and Dr. Chitra Rao of National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) for their support in making this event happen.

Now, I request these distinguished guests to inaugurate the seminar by lighting the lamp of knowledge for us.

( — Inauguration — )

Thank you Gentlemen.

I am indeed very happy to see all of us together here today with our shared interest and determination towards promoting Indian Publications in the Domestic & International Markets leading to World wide exposure of the Indian Content. This is the Third Seminar in a series of Seminars that we have planned all over the country. The first was held in Delhi at the India International Centre and the second in Bareilly at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute. In the course of today’s event, we will have presentations, panel discussions as well as open discussions to create a better understanding of online publishing in India and efforts made by the IndianJournals.com.

IndianJournals.com is a subsidiary of Globe Publication Pvt. Ltd. – an International Subscription Agency. We have been serving the Indian Professionals and librarians for over five decades now by promoting and providing International Journals in the Indian Market. At IndianJournals.com, now we use our experience to create a platform that promotes Indian Content.

IndianJournals.com is a comprehensive collection of multidisciplinary Indian Publications and is technically enhanced platform, which provides Advanced Search Options, Alerting Systems and Online Payment Gateways. The format of content available is Readable, Printable as well as Downloadable. All information displayed on the website is database driven, which facilitates enhanced security, metadata facility and better usage statistics. From the Associates’ point of view, we have enhanced tracking mechanism and Subscriber Management systems, which include Online Users track and financial tracks.

IndianJournals.com facilitates promotion of the Indian Publications both in national and international markets. Our vision remains the same, i.e, to bring together the publications of all the subject areas on this platform to make Indian literature accessible. The searchable platform of IndianJournals.com is as per Internationals Standards that provides a common window for the users to access various publications in their disciplines. It allows one to search without boundaries on the entire platform. The publications are categorized Subject wise, Publisher wise and Alphabetically on the website. In this way, we are not only promoting the publications, but the related societies also get promoted to a great extent. We have also taken the initiative of providing open access to the publications.

At IndianJournals.com, the policy of dissemination of information is decided by the publishers. This platform hosts both Open Access and Paid Publications. We have so far six Open Access Journals.

Hence, we have tried to put all our efforts in this venture to make it a huge repository, which will be the first of its kind in India. We are the only platform providers where all levels of Indian Publications from different places and societies are incorporated. We would like to create an expert committee for different subject areas so that there is a comprehensive look at all sides of information dissemination. We believe this will help in formulating guidelines on the various aspects of e-publishing. Further, it is our endeavor that with discussions in open platforms like these, viable models would evolve and certain methods and practices on online publishing would get formulated for e-publishing of publications whether the same be in open access or otherwise.

We have Dr. Sukhdev Singh with us today, who has experience in the similar lines. I request him to throw some light on this. Further, I would request him to start All India Dialogue for evolving sustainable model of Open Access, which is commercially viable in the Indian context.

Since the last year, we have received overwhelming response in terms of subscriptions, queries and article submissions at IndianJournals.com and with changing times, we must ensure to keep pace with the new technologies. We believe our platform provides this opportunity to the Indian Literature.

I am proud to announce that within a span of a year, the venture today hosts 40 Indian Publications with 170 archived issues from 33 different societies in 9 subject areas so far, which includes Science, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Agriculture, Biology, Business/Economics, Applied Science and Technology and Environmental Sciences. The first E-Book on Indian Technology “Governing Power” – by S.L. Rao, published by the TERI Press is also available on IndianJournals.com. Hence, IndianJournals.com becomes India’s only website to host the largest number of multidisciplinary Indian Publications.

We have seen a lot of interest among Publishers to encompass the technological advancements and increase the visibility of the publications. The only thing required is determination and a right platform, which IndianJournals.com certainly provides! Hence, even if your publication is available online elsewhere, it should be available on the IndianJournals.com as it is a common platform for all Indian Publications. I would like to thank all our associates for their support and helping us in getting closure to our vision, which is “providing global exposure to Indian Publications in the larger interest of Societies, Publishers & Academicians”. And finally, I would like to thank my team for their sincere and dedicated efforts in progressing towards the fulfillment of my dreams.

Thank you,
Jaideep Gurwara
