Guidelines to Authors
The Editor welcomes original papers in all fields of hydrology. The contents of the paper should be clear, concise and presented in a style readily understood by both researchers and field scientists/engineers. A panel of referees will review the submitted paper. The Editorial Board reserves the right to accept, reject or modify the paper before publishing in the Journal.
Manuscripts
Manuscripts in quadruplet should be addressed to Dr. N.K. Goel, Professor and Editor (HYDROLOGY JOURNAL), Department of Hydrology, IIT Roorkee, Roorkee-247667, Uttaranchal (India). Submitted manuscripts should be typewritten on one side of A4 size paper: Generally, there is no page charge, but authors are advised to confine their manuscripts to 15 typewritten pages (including abstract, references, table, figures). The first page should contain a concise but informative title (not exceeding 70 characters), an abstract not exceeding 200 words, and five keywords (to be used for indexing purpose). Name(s) of the author(s) along with their affiliating institutions should appear at the bottom of this page. Full postal address along with telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the author(s) should be provided on a separate page. Ensure pages are numbered. Use all capital letters for main headings, and, first capital and rest small letters in each word for other headings. Ten reprints of the published paper will be supplied free of charge and sent to the first/corresponding author.
Mathematical Symbols and Notations
Symbols should be defined wherever they appear first in the text.
Drawings and Tables
All illustrations (e.g. figures, drawings) should be drawn on a good quality tracing paper with dense black drawing ink in a proportion so that the details (e.g., lines, numbers, symbols, lettering) are clearly legible after a reduction to at least one half of the original size and should be numbered consequently in the order they are mentioned in the text. Each illustration should have a legend; these should be on a separate page and numbered consequently. Tables should also be similarly numbered. Use figures and tables sparingly and plan their format to use the page space economically. Photographs (in black and white, unless otherwise warranted) should be submitted as unmounted glossy enlargements showing good details and moderate contrast.
References
References to published literature appearing in the text should be in the form: Dooge (1959) or Chow et al. (1988). These references should be listed alphabetically at the end of the text in the following style:
Chow, V.T., Maidment, D.R. & Mays, L.W. (1988) Applied Hydrology. McGraw-Hili, New York, USA.
Dooge, J.C. (1959) A general theory of the unit hydrograph. J. Geophys. Res. 64(2), 241-256.
Care should be taken to ascertain that all cited references appear in the list of references and vice-versa.
Submission of Accepted Manuscript
Authors are encouraged to submit the final copy of their accepted manuscript on floppy diskette, preferably in MS Word, in the format of Hydrology Journal. A hardcopy of the electronic text should also accompany the floppy diskette.
