Authors’ Instructions for the Preparation of MAJ Journal Format

Abstract

Title page: The first page of the manuscript should include title, name(s) of the author(s), affiliation, and mailing address including e-mail of the corresponding author. In the title, the first letter of each work should be in capital letter except for prepositions.

Abstract: A brief informative abstract should follow on the second page of the manuscript. It should clearly bring out the scope of the work and its salient features. It should be a single paragraph of not more than 250 words.

Keywords: The abstract should be followed by the important words of the article, which can be included in various indexes.

Keywords: Keywords should immediately follow the abstract. The max.no. of keywords allowed is 6.

Introduction

MAJ supports the author to publish both research and review article.

• Research articles should focus on original investigations and innovative research contributions relevant to the agriculture domain.
• Review articles should focus on in-depth explorations or review on previously conducted research by laboratory or research experts.

It should be brief, crisp and introduce the work in clear terms. During the time of paper submission, the data collected should be less than 3 years. Proper citations must be provided for the key references of the article. A certificate signed by all authors indicating the originality of research work should be produced during submission of the manuscript.

Article/s submitted to MAJ must not be submitted to any other journals and it should not be in possible consideration for publications with any other publishers. No part of a paper published by MAJ should be reproduced or published elsewhere without a written permission from the publisher. The content of the manuscript must not include information whose disclosure will be prejudicial to the national interest.

The articles submitted to MAJ will be given utmost priority for publication. However, if the article is not relevant to the scope of our journal and if the quality of the paper is not satisfactory, the article submission may be directly rejected. If the article comes under the scope of our journal, then it is sent for review to three reviewers relevant to the article subject. Usually, it takes about one month for the first round of the review report. If the reviewers are satisfactory, then there are more chances for the article to be accepted. Papers are accepted on the basis that the contributions in the article are original and have not been published elsewhere and that the authors have acquired necessary authorization for publication of any secondary data or material submitted.

Template Specifications

MAJ template is used for formatting the article style and format. The author must not alter the pre-defined margins, column widths, line spaces, and text fonts assigned. Please do not revise any of the current template design.

Template Usage

After preparing the article, fit the article content into the MAJ template carefully. While copy-pasting the content from source file to designation file, ensure that the designation formatting is followed. Make sure that the integrity of the template is retained.

Material and Methods

The standard and already reported method must be clearly given or cited. Any modification of the original method must be duly highlighted. This section may be subtitled for clarity. Use standard abbreviations of the various units. ISI units should be used for measurements.

Results and Discussion

This section can also be subtitled for clarity. Salient results must be highlighted and discussed with related works. A brief conclusion of the research finding and future line of work may be given at the end.

Figures and Structures

Structure drawings, graphs, and diagrams should be given in JPEG preferably through MS Word or MS PowerPoint. Photographs must be on glossy paper or in high-resolution soft copy. Colour printing of the photographs will be charged separately. Figures/structures must be numbered with figure numbers like Figure 1, Figure 2, and must be indicated in the approximate position in the text. It is the author's responsibility to provide suitable figures and drawings.

Quality of figure

The figure should be clear, definite and blur-free with good contrast as in Fig. 1. All lettering used inside the figure should be visible enough to permit legible reduction. Quality of the figure resolutions must be as follows: 300dpi for color images; 600dpi for mono images; 72dpi for screen images; 600dpi for line drawings.

Maps

Ensure that you are using the authorized maps as the base for map figure drawing. Maps drawn without any authorized base have to submit a certificate from the Surveying and Mapping management as proof of authorization. All the maps should follow the publishing requirements released by the Government.

Formulae and equations

Formulae should be provided in the appropriate places and must be typewritten. It is better to insert the equations as an object by using the Microsoft Equation Editor. All the symbols and letters used in the formulas must be identical, clear and definite. The style of the appearance of the symbols and scripts must be given proper care. Subscripts and superscripts should be set off clearly. The Equation number must appear at the end of the equation line. The equation must be abbreviated as Eqn. along with the numbering for referencing in the text (Eqn.1). Equations should be placed in a separate line and must not run along with the text.

Abbreviations

Do not use abbreviations in the title or abstract unless they are unavoidable. Expand all abbreviations at first mention in the text.

DOI

The Digital Object Identifier (DOI) number is used to cite and link to the electronic documents. It consists of a unique alpha-numeric character string for initial electronic publication. This number is usually generated and assigned by MAJ for the accepted articles in this publication. This unique number is used for citing or referring a document. The correct format for citing a DOI is as follows (the example is taken from a document in the Madras Agricultural Journal): doi: 10.29321/MAJ.2018.000121

All the authors of the article should sign the copyright form. Hand and Digital signatures are accepted.

Conclusion

Relevant references shall be quoted under each section and must be cited in full in the reference section. References to unpublished work and the abstract citation may be avoided. The following style should be adopted. References need not be numbered but should be arranged alphabetically in chronological order.
