Taxonomic description of a new species of phlebotominae (Phlebotomidae: Diptera) from Bihar, India Singh N.S., Phillips-Singh Doris, Ipe Ipe M. Department of Zoology, Lucknow Christian P.G. College, Golaganj, Lucknow-226018. naveendoris@rediffmail.com Abstract The paper describes and illustrates a new sand fly species Phlebotomus chiyankiensis sp.nov. belonging to the subgenus Anaphlebotomus of Phlebotomidae. The specimens were collected from localities in various districts of Bihar, India, which has humid, mountainous, low tropical forest habitats, and considered an endemic area of kala-azar. Males could be identified by their parameres, coxal spines, accessory seta on coxite, shape of aedeagus and metrics of genital pump vs genital filament; additional distinctive features are size of the antennal segments and presence of ascoids; and females difficult to distinguish; P. chiyankiensis sp.nov., resembles P. stantoni, but can be distinguished by its spermatheca.
