Abstract

In Cyprinus carpio the blood serum osmolality was hyperosmotic to the surrounding freshwater medium. An increase in the osmolality of the blood serum was evident when the fish was transferred to 3, 6 and 9 ppt of sodium chloride (NaCl) solution. In all the test media, fluctuations in the blood osamolality of the serum was observed upto 35th day of experiment. At the end of the experiment, fluctuations in the osamolality of the blood serum decreased and the range of osmolality value in all the test media was close in all fishes. The blood serum volumes and haematocrit values are significantly elevated 3, 6 and 9 ppt exposed fishes at different period of exposures.
