Abstract

Of the 303 elite strains of wheat screened for their reactions to yellow and brown rusts at the Plant Breeding Research Sub-station, Bajaura, during rabi 1975-76, only six strains, ‘VL 71’, ‘CC 114’, ‘HW 161’, ‘RKS 8’, ‘WL 334’ and ‘HD 2009’ were immune and 37 strains were fairly resistant to both the rusts. All the 6 immune and 13 among the fairly resistant strains, viz., VL, 417, VL 421, UP 325, HS 17, HS 84, HB 187, HB 383, HD 2184, HD 2186, Bajaura 1, K 812, CC 466 and Raj. 821, possessed some desirable agronomic attributes and can be utilized in hybridization programme of wheat improvement, particularly for the hills.
