Abstract

A study was conducted to evaluate the performance of nine alstoemeria cultivars (Pluto, Alladin, Serena, Variety No. 14, Capri, Tiara, Cindrella, Rosita and Amor) under polyhouse conditions. The results indicated that maximum flowering shoot length, diameter of flowering shoot, number of ‘A’ grade flowering shoots, number of cymes per inflorescence, number of florets per shoot and per cyme were recorded in Variety No. 14. The cut bloom of this variety showed the maximum vase-life. Maximum number of flowering shoots was produced by Serena and minimum time taken for flowering by Alladin. The maximum length of primary floret was recorded in Rosita. The width of primary floret at full bloom stage was maximum in Capri. The maximum number of florets opened at a time was recorded in Cindrella. Minimum diseases incidence were observed in cvs. Pluto, Capri, Serena, Tiara, Cindrella, Rosita and Amor. Based on the results, emphasis needs to be paid towards the introduction of all cultivars except Variety No. 14 (due to highly disease susceptible) for a cut flower production in hilly regions.
