Humans cannot survive for too long without paying attention to the ecosystem. Global warming, sustainable development, and ecological balance have become buzz words. Various national and international government and non-government agencies like United Nations local bodies to corporations have started focussing on protection, conservation, restoration, extraction of natural resources. Though there is an improvement in awareness and health services with decreased infant mortality rates but the overall mental health is on the decline. Water shortage and floods on the other side are affecting more and more people, plants, and animals today. Barring sporadic efforts at individual or group levels, the environmental restoration and balanced approach to healthy nutrition and healthy living has been counter productive and far from becoming self-sustaining. Yoga scriptures and allied disciplines like naturopathy and Ayurveda that contain balance and holistic approach ingrained and propounded since times immemorial treat ecology as holistic and therefore can play a vital role in regenerating and reestablishing the true self of the humans and nature's harmony. The present article focuses on the dire human need to practice restraint and play a proactive role in supporting our ecosystem, to be in harmony with the ecological chakras of water, soil and air for adequate nutrition and healthy living.
