Abstract

Spread Spectrum has found numerous applications in communication systems, the most prominent of which are security based communication. While conventional encryption mechanisms are used to secure data from adversaries, yet no algorithm can guarantee complete resistance to attacks by adversaries. Hence spread spectrum is used to deceive adversaries in thinking a signal to be noise. This is done by spreading the signal spectrum and reducing the signal power below the typical power of noise. This technique of using spread spectrum to evade possible adversaries is called band jamming. This paper introduces the basics of band jamming using spread spectrum. The performance metrics to evaluate the band jamming technique are Bit Error Rate, Spreading factor and Outage Probability.
