Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the performance of brinjal under surface and sub-surface drip irrigation using saline and good quality water at the Precision Farming Development Centre, ARS, Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner during 2015-2018 on loamy sand soil. The experiment comprised of two levels of irrigation water salinity viz., 0.25(BAW) and 2.76 dS/m, two drip system (surface and sub-surface) or two mulch pattern (without mulch and with mulch) under Factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications. Based on three seasons pooled data it was revealed that brinjal cv. Navkiran gave maximum fruits per plant (17.53) and yield (507.50 q ha−1) in best available water, which was 6.33 per cent higher as compared to saline water. Whereas in the sub-surface drip irrigation system, maximum number of fruits per plant (18.28) and yield (512.70 q ha−1), out of both the treatment, were recorded, which was significantly higher over surface drip. Further, significantly higher number of fruits per plant (17.3) and yield (523.33 q ha−1) were found with mulching.
