Bees are directly exposed with contaminants during feeding; pollutants easily stick from the air on body hair, pollen and nectar collection from flowers. It has already been reported that during the collection of pollens, heavy metals accumulated in the plant parts are transferred into the body of honey bee. In past few years, many researchers have detected a high correlation between metal contents in bee products and their content into the environment, suggesting the use of honey as an indicator of environmental contamination. The population, comb size, bee foraging and other activities are getting severely affected due to changing climatic conditions. In the present study, efforts were made to assess the effect of environment on honeybee colonies in different districts of Himachal Pradesh.
