Abstract

Ayurveda, a healing practice that started in India over 3,000 years ago, maintains remarkable relevance even today. At its very core, it frames health as a delicate balance among the body, mind, and spirit. Despite its ancient origins, Ayurveda has proven quite effective in helping people manage long-term health challenges. Presently medical research has experienced a paradigm shift from in vivo to in silico experimentation. The advent of Human Genome Project has provided a tremendous impetus to this field. This is not only to meet the challenges in diagnosis and treatment of chronic and complex diseases but also to address the variability in therapeutic outcome as well as evolve preventive measures in health and disease. Ayurinformatics as a novel approach for integration of Ayurveda into bioinformatics, seeks to provide a deep, data-driven approach of individualised health through an Ayurveda lens. This collaboration leads to new healthcare tools that offer more personalised care. Ayurinformatics is being used in a number of ways from setting up better health databases to helping doctors understand patients as individuals, not just cases. In some situations, it can even give early warnings about possible health problems before they become serious. What is important here is that it doesn’t try to take over traditional Ayurveda practices. Instead, it offers alternative tools that can be shaped to fit each person. This way of working supports care that actually takes individual background into account and looks at health as something we care for over a lifetime. Presently, Ayurinformatics is growing rapidly and could really change how we think about treatment by making it more personal, more complete, and better suited to each person’s body and life.
