The study briefly explores the face of the Filipino family particularly its traditional family values and how today these values are slowly being eroded due to certain challenging conditions that are affecting the normal functions of the family. Based on sociological studies the Filipino family is by residence nuclear but it is functionally extended especially during critical times when support is needed from both sides of the family. It is popularly known for its strong cultural family values due to the fact that Filipinos are basically relationship-oriented and marriage is considered not only a partnership of two individuals but a union of two families. Due to the process of modernization, however, the Filipino family has been observed to have undergone certain changes evident in terms of shifts in marital norms, gender roles, child-rearing patterns and family stability. As conclusion, author identifies the need of strengthening the Filipino family especially its Christian vocation and mission in the Church.
