Abstract

The water intakes along the Nile River have been used for multipurpose demands such as cooling water for power-plants and treated plant for drinking water, The optimum selection of intake location represents very important-to minimize problems that hider the water withdrawal process and as a result increase the intake efficiency in-addition to reduce the maintenance and cost. One of the widely known problems that affect the efficiency of-the intakes is the accumulation of sediment in front of the intake. This problem leads to a decrease in the water-abstract capacity of intake, in addition to cause damage in the propeller of the pumps due to the abstract of fine-sediment. In this paper, a 2D numerical model for Nile River fourth reach as a study area was developed using Delft3D several scenarios were simulated and three optimum locations were chosen as new intake location on the reach.
