Renewable Energy Policies and Regulation in India

As the world battles with the issue of climate change, India has decided to slowly changeover from conventional forms of energy to clean renewable sources of electricity generation. In 2008, the central and state governments started a major initiative called the National Solar Mission while launching India's National Action Plan on climate change. With its objective to changeover to clean renewable energy, the country has set a target to achieve a capacity of 450 GW by 2030. India presently has more than 105 GW of installed capacity of renewable energy plants, with more than 90 GW of generation from solar and wind plants. With the change in times, central and state governments have come up with new policies and regulations to encourage more and more generation of power using these renewable sources. This paper discusses a few of these policies that have encouraged the integration of solar and wind power plants to gird.
