Abstract

The agriculture sector holds a noteworthy position in the Indian economy. The Green Revolution of late 1960s gave a fillip to the agriculture sector by emphasizing on the availability of various scientific farm inputs and introducing modernization in this sector. Even though numerous benefits resulted from the modern farming practices but increasing application of agrochemicals produced damaging effects for crops, plants, soils, human beings, livestock and environment. The rising extent of the baneful effects has resulted in the propagation of eco-friendly organic farming practices. The area under organic farming has progressively increased over the years. The government is the main institution o f the state that is engaged in advancing organic farming in organized ways. However, in real life the practice of organic farming is facing myriad practical challenges. Unless and until earnest measures are taken up to address these challenges the organic farming practices will continue to remain hampered.
