Abstract

Indian corporate sector though progressing by leaps and bounds has been far away from the knowledge management's initial phase of revolution. It emerged Upanishads that knowledge was managed by being passed on by generations of wise men to their disciples and followers. Currently applications of knowledge management are happening in the corporate sector in a big way but still there is much more to be done and understanding perspectives in the area of knowledge management implementation in it's true spirit.

The conclusion is reached that knowledge management is an umbrella term for a variety of organizational activities, none of which are concerned with the management of knowledge. Those activities that are not concerned with the management of information are concerned with the management of work practices, in the expectation that changes in such areas, as communication practice will enable information sharing.

This paper will answer the following questions:

Why is it essential to manage it?

What is this activity called knowledge management?

What are the benefits of knowledge management?

How to provide an in-depth insight into various dimensions of knowledge management with a focus on strategies and practices followed by some leading organizations?
