This paper details through the experience of a deprived woman hailing from the tribal dominated Bastar region of Chhattisgarh the immense difficulties that confront a majority of such students in their quest for attaining higher education and analyses the historical roots of the still prevailing politico-economic context that continues to give rise to such educational deprivation among the tribals, adivasis, indigenous peoples and Dalits in India.
