Use of Various Bio-Fencing Plants to cure Human Diseases by the Yrava Ethnic group of Coorg Dist, Karnataka- India

Today, search for new drugs having prospective therapeutic compounds is of worldwide significance. This paper documents the traditional knowledge of medicinal plants that are in use by the Yarava tribes residing in few isolated pockets of COORG dist Karnataka India. The current study was done through structured questionnaires in consultations with the tribal healers and has resulted in the documentation of 20 medicinal plant species belonging to 18 families and 15 genera. For curing diverse form of health disorders. the use of aboveground plant parts was higher (56.59%) than the underground plant parts (13.41%). Further, aboveground plant parts, leaf was used in the majority of cases (11 species), followed by fruit (2). In total, 30 types of ailments have been reported to be cured by using these 20 medicinal plant species. This paper explores the indigenous health knowledge of Yarava ethnic group of Karnataka state (India) in healing common human aliments. This paper is based on the field exploration conducted in Karnataka (South India).
