Naxalism: Experience of An Anthropologist

Today, just like terrorism, naxalism is also becoming one of the major problems in our country. But one major difference between these two is that where terrorism is nurtured and originated by the forces outside the country; naxalism is on the other hand, initiated by some of our own ideologists. Both are related with certain specific rights and ideologies, both have disagreements with the present governmental organization and political system, both want their own parallel government and reorganization of geographical boundaries; then why the form of naxalism is more fearful and gigantic than terrorism in national context? Well the answer to this question is obvious in the origin of naxalism itself. Therefore, the present research paper a part from tracing the origin of naxalism also tries to analyze its present situation and ends with certain recommendations. The author, in April, 2009, personally experience the terror of naxalism (though virtually) during her visit to Ram Rekha Dham of the Simdega district of Jharkhand. She went there with a team of PG Final year students to supervise them in their fieldwork, as per their course curriculum. The discussion of this personal experience clearly demonstrates that how on national level; both the form and structure of naxalism went far away when compared to terrorism?
