The study finds that MGNREGP has become a beacon of light in the rural employment, and contributed substantially for the increased living and economic conditions by reducing income imbalances and increasing the minimum wages in the rural areas. The study pointed out that the major shortcoming of this scheme is lack of man power, inadequate professional administrative staff, lack of proper project planning and monitoring. The study also found that lack of bureaucratic resistance, lack of transparency, and absence of social audit, inappropriate rates of payment and poor maintenance of records were major defaults of this scheme.
