Abstract

The modulus of elasticity of pearl millet grain was estimated and compared using the (i) experimental uniaxial compression (F-δ curve) test for actual pearl millet grain (at 8% moisture content, wb), as per ASAE (American Society of Agricultural Engineers) standard methods and (ii) finite element method (FEM) simulated (11000 tetrahedral elements) pearl millet grain. It was found that the average modulus of elasticity obtained for ASAE developed theoretical procedure and FEM were 1.295 GPa and 1.464 GPa, respectively. The results revealed that there existed only 11.27 % deviation between the ASAE actual grain uniaxial compression and simulated FEM procedure. Hence, the newer procedural technique of FEM simulated can be adopted and further explored for its best utilization in various algorithm developments
