Quantification of the furostanol and spirostanol steroidal saponins in the root of Chlorophytum borivilianum was carried out by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The results showed that this method could be used to identify the steroidal saponins in Chlorophytum borivilianum, which is sensitive and quick. Under optimized conditions, the active compounds, borivilianosides extracted from Chlorophytum borivilianum roots were found to be resolved into four furostanol (A to D) and four spirostanol (E to H) steroidal saponins respectively in the HPLC-UV detector system
