In Northern India, waste paper was used in making thathiya, which served as an excellent container for storing and serving dry food items. In this study, the technology of making thathiya from various types of waste papers viz., newspaper, hard paper (gatta) and a combination of both (newspaper and gatta) was standardized. It was observed that the newspaper, gatta and a combination of both required 9 d, 12 d and 12 d of soaking in water respectively, and 4 kg of base material, i.e., newspaper, gatta and a combination of both required 2.1 kg, 1.6 kg and 1.6 kg of Fuller's earth respectively. The weight of the thathiya ready for use from newspaper, gatta and a combination of both was 1.05 kg, 1.3 kg and 1.3 kg respectively. The man-hours required to prepare one thathiya was 0.84 h, 0.93 h and 0.98 h respectively
