A simple method for the synthesis of mono dispersed silver nano-particles in polyaniline (PANI) – polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) polymer matrix is described. The objective of the present research work is to obtain interpenetrating polymer network composite of PANI-PVA with silver nano particles (Ag NP). Polyaniline-polyvinyl alcohol-silver nano particles IPN were synthesized at room temperature by the chemical oxidation of aniline in the aqueous solution of silver nitrate (1.0 × 10−3 M) and polyvinyl alcohol using ammonium persulphate as an oxidizing agent. The synthesized IPN composite is characterized by employing UV-visible, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique for understanding the details of the structure. The absorption spectrum of the solution showed a peak at 420 nm due to the polaron-π* transition of the polyaniline and the peak at 448.0 nm showed the presence of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) due to silver nano particles. SEM image showed mono dispersed silver nano particles in polymer matrix. The size of the silver nano particles from XRD data calculation was found to be around 35 nm. Thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning colorimetry (DSC) was carried out to study the thermal stability of the resulting composite
