Nano-materials of barium phosphate such as BaHPO4 and Ba5 (PO4)3 Cl each doped with Li+ and Dy3+ were prepared using ethylene glycol. BaHPO4 prepared at pH 6, belongs to the orthorhombic system corresponding to JCPDS 721370 (for pure BaHPO4 and chloro-apatite). Ba5 (PO4)3Cl prepared at pH 11.5, belongs to the hexagonal system corresponding to JCPDS 702318 (for pure Ba5 (PO4)3 Cl). At pH 8, both orthorhombic and hexagonal phases were observed. The prepared samples demonstrated enhanced luminescence intensity when co-doped with Li+ ions. The emission intensity of Ba5 (PO4)3 Cl:Dy3+:Li+ (at pH 11.5) was higher than that of BaHPO4:Dy3+:Li+ (at pH 6). The emission intensity increased upto 5% of Dy3+ concentration and decreased with increasing concentration of the dopant ions (Keywords: Luminescence, apatite, nano-materials, phosphor, phosphate compound).
