The avifauna of the saltpans and adjoining mangrove areas near Naigaon railway station were surveyed from June 2015 to July 2016. A total of 124 bird species belonging to 46 families and 17 orders were observed during the study period. The study area harboured rich bird diversity including few migratory birds such as the Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus), Little Grebe {Tachybaptus ruficollis) and Ruddy-breasted Crake (Porzana fusca). The results of the survey indicated the availability of abundant food resources and healthy ecosystem in the study area
