Poverty alleviation is one of the essentials For economic development of Bangladesh. SuccessJul credit delivery, satisJactory recovery and magnificent organization build-up among the poor by thousand of NGOs of the country have proved that micro-finance is the most effective way to increase the income level of the poor. Later, three government commercial banks and two specialized agricultural development banks of Bangladesh have also joined in the line of micro-ftnancing later. The present study aims to assess the impact of micro-finance by one of the government-sponsored banks on income and consumption of the rural poor. The paper conducts case study of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank of Bangladesh. The study reveals that microfinance by the sample bank increases both the income level and consumption of the landless poor significantly though it could not increase their income from Jarming.
