Application and Uses of Accounting Information System(AIS) in Banking Sector in Bangladesh

Accounting information allows commercial banks to speculate upon opportunity of attractive business in placements and resource attraction. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the use and application of the accounting information system in banking sector in Bangladesh. Data has been collected by using a self administered structured questionnaire consisting of nineteen questions designed by the researcher to measure the AIS application used in the banking field. Factor analysis was used as a more suitable methodology to identify the important application and uses of AIS in banking sector. The study found that eight factors have significant effect on the application and uses of AIS such as Monitoring and Decision making, Core Operational activities, Detect Variation in change, Matching Regulatory Compliance, Loan Disbursement, Determining Cost of Service, Optimum Utilization of Resources and Internal Control. The survey result also shows that the information handling units by AIS of the banking sector has not been properly organized. This study recommends to focus on the development of the devices used in each department, training and development of the bankers on an ongoing basis to enable them to continue to perform their jobs and improve the quality of accounting information system in the banking field.
